J.G. Ballard

(1930 - 2009)

J.G. Ballard spent four years in a Japanese prison camp during World War II, an experience related in his autobiographical novel, Empire of the Sun. The author of Crash and Vermillion Sands once said, “I believe that science fiction is the authentic literature of the twentieth century, the only fiction to respond imaginatively to the transforming nature of science and technology.”
