Swiss traveler and writer Nicolas Bouvier.

Nicolas Bouvier

(1929 - 1998)

Born in Switzerland in 1929, Nicolas Bouvier at the age of sixteen set off on a solitary trip to Italy. In 1953 he left Geneva again in a Fiat Topolino, planning to join a friend in Yugoslavia; the experience served as the basis for his cult classic of travel writing—The Way of the World—that concludes with Bouvier, alone, in the Khyber Pass in December 1954.
