Belle Boyd

(1844 - 1900)

One of the best-known spies of the Civil War, Belle Boyd wrote a popular two-volume memoir, Belle Boyd in Camp and Prison. Imprisoned as a spy in Washington, DC, Boyd fled to London in 1864. There, she embarked on a career in acting. She returned to the U.S. in 1866.
