Johann Gottlieb Fichte

(1762 - 1814)

A leading intellectual of his day, Johann Gottlieb Fichte was one of the founders of German idealism. His first publication, An Attempt at a Critique of All Revelation, was printed in 1792 absent his name, and it was judged to be the work of Immanuel Kant. When the elder philosopher corrected the error, Fichte’s reputation was made.
