Lou Gehrig

(1903 - 1941)

Lou Gehrig was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a rare nervous-system disorder. From 1925 to 1939, he played in 2,130 consecutive baseball games, a record only broken by Cal Ripken Jr. in 1995. He died in New York City at the age of thirty-seven in 1941.
