James Hilton

(1900 - 1954)

James Hilton published his first novel, Catherine Herself, before graduating from Christ’s College, Cambridge, in 1921. He coined the term “Shangri-La” in Lost Horizon, published in 1933, and, after moving to Hollywood in the late 1930s, won an Oscar for his screenplay for Mrs. Miniver.
