Andrew Marvell

(1621 - 1678)

In his lifetime Andrew Marvell was known not as poet but rather as a Parliamentarian active during the Restoration of King Charles II. The first publication of his poems in 1681 resulted from a manuscript volume that his housekeeper found among his effects after his death from fever in 1678.
