Hans Massaquoi

(1926 - 2013)

Son of a German mother and Liberian father, Hans Massaquoi grew up in Hamburg, where he lived through the reign of the Nazi Party. “Unlike the Jews,” he noted, “blacks were so few in numbers that we were relegated to low-priority status in the Nazis’ lineup for extermination.”
