Judith N. Shklar

(1928 - 1992)

Born to Jewish parents in Latvia, Judith N. Shklar emigrated to the United States at the age of thirteen. She received her PhD from Harvard in 1955 and was the first female professor to be given tenure in the university’s government department. Her works include the 1989 essay “The Liberalism of Fear” and the books Ordinary Vices (1984) and The Faces of Injustice (1990).
