Jeanette Winterson

Jeanette Winterson was forced to leave her home in a Lancashire mill town at the age of sixteen after she fell in love with another girl. In order to support herself, she worked as an ice cream truck driver, a funeral parlor makeup artist, and a domestic in a mental institution. In 1985 she published her first book, the semiautobiographical Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit. She is the author of twenty other books.
