Alice Duer Miller

(1874 - 1942)

Born in Staten Island, New York, the poet Alice Duer Miller’s great-great-grandfather signed the Articles of Confederation; most of her family’s fortune was lost in a banking failure when she was a child. A well-known suffragist, Miller wrote Are Women People? and Women Are People!, among other books.
