Harry Belafonte

Born in Harlem, Harry Belafonte lived in Jamaica between the ages of seven and thirteen. In 1956 he released his best-selling album, Calypso, which introduced American audiences to the music of Trinidad and Tobago. Belafonte performed his best-known hit, “Day-O,” on television for the first time, in 1978, as a guest star on The Muppet Show.
