Patrice Lumumba

(1925 - 1961)

Patrice Lumumba was the Republic of the Congo’s first prime minister. Within months of winning independence, he was executed by firing squad. A Belgian court found that “certain members of the Belgian government and other Belgian figures have a moral responsibility in the circumstances which led to the death of Lumumba.”
