Mira Bai

(c. 1498 - c. 1547)

Born a Rajput princess, Mira Bai was married to the crown prince of Mewar around the age of eighteen, but she refused to worship her husband’s family deity. Five years later, after her husband had died, she began worshipping Krishna as her divine husband, leading her in-laws to make several attempts on her life. She moved to Dwarka, where Krishna had lived, and when a group of priests was sent to bring her back, she disappeared without a trace.
