Gaspar Ofhuys

(c. 1456 - c. 1523)

Gaspar Ofhuys was a monk in the Netherlands, remembered only for writing about the mental breakdown of the artist Hugo van der Goes, who died at the monastery where Ofhuys lived. His account of the painter’s unraveling has been described as “a masterpiece of clinical accuracy and sanctimonious malice.”
