David Quammen

After studying with Robert Penn Warren at Yale, David Quammen went to Oxford on a Rhodes Scholarship, studying the works of William Faulkner, and became a novelist. He has since written numerous books on the science, history, and human impacts of emerging diseases. In his 2012 book Spillover: Animal Infections and the Next Human Pandemic, Quammen wrote that outbreaks “represent the unintended results of things we are doing. They reflect the convergence of two forms of crisis on our planet. The first crisis is ecological, the second is medical.”
