Daniel Somers
(1983 - 2013)
While serving two tours in the U.S. Army in the mid-2000s, Daniel Somers participated in over four hundred combat missions as a machine gunner in the turret of a Humvee, interrogated insurgents and potential terrorists, interviewed Iraqi citizens and government officials, and operated the Northern Iraq Intelligence Center. Somers committed suicide on June 10, 2013. He had been suffering from, among other combat-related conditions, PTSD and a traumatic brain injury. He was thirty years old.
