Svante Arrhenius

(1859 - 1927)

The Swedish Nobel Prize–winning chemist Svante Arrhenius is considered the first scientist to construct a model for the effect of industrial activity on global warming. There are craters named after him on the moon and Mars, and he spent much of his later life writing popular science books trying to make his fields understandable to the general public.
