Charles Johnson

“Charles Johnson,” credited with authorship of the 1724 book A General History of the Robberies and Murders of the Most Notorious Pyrates, has long been understood to be a nom de plume, and many theories have been posed as to the author’s identity. One popular, though unsubstantiated, theory holds it to be the work of novelist and adventurer Daniel Defoe.
