John Conyers Jr.

(1929 - 2019)

John Conyers Jr., the sixth-longest-serving member of Congress and the longest-serving black representative in congressional history, represented parts of Detroit from 1965 until his resignation in 2017 amid allegations that he had sexually harassed employees. He was on the House Judiciary Committee during impeachment proceedings against both Richard Nixon and Bill Clinton, and continually pushed for legislation to study reparations during his career.
