Alan Furst

Born in New York, Alan Furst is the author of many historical spy novels, most of which take place in or around the dramatic tension of World War II. “I never got any training in how to write novels as an English major at Oberlin, but I got some great training for writing novels from anthropology and from Margaret Mead,” Furst said in a 1996 interview from his home in Sag Harbor. Before landing on spy novels, Furst wrote comic murder mysteries and helped Debbi Fields, of the cookie Fields, write her autobiography.
