Jimi Hendrix

(1942 - 1970)

Pioneering musician Jimi Hendrix was left-handed and learned to play guitar upside down. After serving as a U.S. Army paratrooper, he toured as a backing musician and in 1964 moved to New York City. He formed the Jimi Hendrix Experience in London in 1966 and released Are You Experienced? in 1967, the same year the group performed in the Monterey Pop Festival.
