Matthew Josephson

(1899 - 1978)

Born in Brooklyn in 1899, Matthew Josephson moved to Paris in the 1920s and helped edit the magazine Broom. His best-known book, published in 1934 after he returned to the States, is The Robber Barons: The Great American Capitalists, 1861–1901; he also wrote biographies of Emile Zola, Stendhal, and Victor Hugo.
