Kim Man-jung

(1637 - 1692)

Kim Man-jung received top scores in his civil-service examinations and joined the Joseon court, but less than a decade later he was exiled for the first of several times following a controversy over funeral etiquette. During his exile, in an attempt to entertain his mother, he is believed to have written the classic Korean novel The Nine Cloud Dream.
