Marghanita Laski

(1915 - 1988)

Born in 1915 to a family of Jewish intellectuals in Manchester, Marghanita Laski graduated from Oxford in 1936 and published her first novel, Love on the Supertax, in 1944. She soon followed it with To Bed with Grand Music, Tory Heaven, Little Boy Lost, and The Village. In addition to being a regular panelist on BBC Radio shows such as The Brains Trust and The Critics, Laski, from 1958 to 1986, was a prolific contributor to the Oxford English Dictionary, supplying the publication with some 250,000 illustrative quotations.
