John Lukacs

(1924 - 2019)

For nearly fifty years, the Budapest-born John Lukacs taught history at Chestnut Hill College, in Philadelphia. The author of thirty-five books, including Churchill, Five Days in London, and A Short History of the Twentieth Century, Lukacs “influenced and inspired (and sometimes infuriated) three generations of accomplished historians,” wrote a fellow historian in 2013, “despite never having taught at prestigious universities.”
