Benedetto Marcello

(1686 - 1739)

After studying composition with Antonio Lotti and Francesco Gasparini, Benedetto Marcello worked as a vocal coach around the musical theaters of Venice in the 1710s. He later became critical of what he perceived to be rampant extravagance and vain ambitions in the local opera scene. Marcello died of tuberculosis in Brescia in 1739.
