Tanure Ojaide

Tanure Ojaide was raised by his grandmother in the Niger River delta, in a village that “does not appear in any map I know of,” he writes in a memoir, At Home, Away from Home, but one that “remains fresh and thriving in my memory.” After studying at the University of Ibadan, he moved to Syracuse, New York, where he completed his PhD. “I may be one of those folks practicing place polygamy in this age of globalization,” he writes in the memoir. “I am caught up in an unending oscillation; now at home and wishing to leave, and soon outside and wishing to be back at home.”
