Louis-François Ramond

(1755 - 1827)

Born in Strasbourg, Louis-François Ramond was a politician, botanist, and geologist interested in the Pyrenees. He tried several times to reach the top of Monte Perdido, finally making the complete ascent in 1802. His name was later borrowed to describe a plant that grows at high elevations, a mountain, a peak, and a series of craters.
