Riverbend

In August 2003 Riverbend, a pseudonymous twenty-four-year-old blogger, began chronicling her family’s daily struggles in Baghdad during the Iraq War. A book titled after the blog and comprising the first year of posts was published in 2005, the same year it won a Lettre Ulysses Award for the Art of Reportage. “We’re living, this moment, the future we were afraid to contemplate six months ago,” she writes in an early post. “It’s like trying to find your way out of a nightmare. I just wish they would take the oil and go.”
