Rudolf Steiner

(1861 - 1925)

In 1918 Rudolf Steiner was invited to establish a school for the children of workers at the Waldorf Astoria cigarette factory in Stuttgart. He devised the Independent Waldorf School as the educational branch of his doctrine of anthroposophy, through which he hoped to combine spiritualism and the natural sciences; the Waldorf school movement grew to include more than a thousand schools worldwide.
