Roberto Saviano
Italian journalist Roberto Saviano spent five years researching Gomorrah, his book about the Camorra mafia in Naples, going so far as to work undercover at a construction site and wait tables at a mob wedding. When a reporter asked him why he had risked so much to expose Camorra families, Saviano said, “I had a huge rage inside. I had a desire for vendetta, in the true sense of the term, against an extremely ferocious world that involves everybody.” Since the book’s publication in 2006, he has had police protection.
