Edwin Way Teale

(1899 - 1980)

Edwin Way Teale studied literature at Columbia University and in 1928 became a staff writer for Popular Science Monthly. He wrote some thirty books, including a series in which he followed each of the four seasons across North America. The Biographical Dictionary of American and Canadian Naturalists and Environmentalists lists, as Teale’s major contributions, that he “convinced Americans they had a personal stake in the preservation of ecological zones” and “emphasized that nature provides meaning for those who seek it.”
