Efua Traoré

The Nigerian writer Efua Traoré moved to Europe to study in Germany and France at the age of eighteen. Her story “True Happiness” was the African winner of the 2018 Commonwealth Short Story Prize. “I write,” she said after her win, “simply because it is the most thrilling experience to create characters and worlds and relationships—or to destroy them, if I feel like it.”
