  • You could add a "friend" link between Thomas Hart Benton and Harry Truman. The two met when Benton was commissioned to do the murals at the Truman library. At first they rubbed one another the wrong way, but very soon Truman was boasting about his great artist friend from back home in Kansas City.

    Should you ever want to drink where Thomas Hart Benton did, go to Kelly's Bar at the corner of Westport and Broadway. It's supposedly the oldest building in town, and once served as Jim Bridger's trading post.
