Loren Eiseley
(1907 - 1977)
Born and raised in Nebraska, Loren Eiseley taught for many years at the University of Pennsylvania but made his reputation through his writings on nature. “Dr. Eiseley happens to be an archaeologist, an anthropologist, and a naturalist,” wrote W.H. Auden, but “the first point he wishes to make is that in order to be a scientist, an artist, a doctor, a lawyer, or what have you, one has to first be a human being.”
