Henri Barbusse

(1873 - 1935)

Henri Barbusse wrote his World War I novel Under Fire while still a soldier in the French army. After being discharged because of war wounds, he left France in January 1918 for Moscow, where he joined the Bolshevik party. Barbusse’s final work was a biography of Joseph Stalin.
