Coco Chanel

(1883 - 1971)

Although she kept an apartment at 31, rue Cambon, in Paris, the fashion designer Coco Chanel did not sleep there. At night she retired to her three-room suite at the Ritz hotel, where she lived for more than thirty years. During World War II, Chanel had her gas mask brought down to the Ritz’s air raid shelter on a silk cushion.
