George Sydenham Clarke

(1848 - 1933)

As governor of Victoria and Bombay, George Sydenham Clarke was a colonial administrator at a time when the British Empire was starting to break apart. “George Clarke was a diligent man of independent mind,” wrote one biographer, “who prided himself on his imagined objectivity.”
