J.M. Coetzee

The son of a sheep farmer, the South African novelist and essayist J.M. Coetzee won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2003, borrowing the literary persona of Robinson Crusoe to deliver his Nobel lecture in Stockholm. He is the author of the novels Waiting for the Barbarians, Disgrace, and Age of Iron, among others.
