Edwidge Danticat

Edwidge Danticat was born in Port-au-Prince and left Haiti for Brooklyn when she was twelve. “I think it’s very difficult,” she told an American interviewer after her first novel was published in 1994, “for every child who comes here from another culture.” She was named a MacArthur fellow in 2009 and is the author of Breath, Eyes, Memory (1994), Brother, I’m Dying (2007), and Claire of the Sea Light (2013), among other books.
