Margaret Drabble

Margaret Drabble, DBE, is a novelist and critic, born in Sheffield in 1939. After a brief and inglorious career as an actress with the Royal Shakespeare Company, she became a full-time writer and has published nineteen novels, most recently The Dark Flood Rises. Her works of nonfiction include biographies of Arnold Bennett and Angus Wilson, and she edited the fifth and sixth editions of The Oxford Companion to English Literature.
