Brazilian poet and journalist Carlos Drummond de Andrade.

Carlos Drummond de Andrade

(1902 - 1987)

After receiving a pharmacy degree in 1925, Carlos Drummond de Andrade turned to poetry and joined a group of Brazilian Modernists promoting colloquial speech and unconventional syntax in their free-verse forms. A poet, a journalist, an essayist, and a literary critic in equal measure, he often wrote on the frustrations of immigrants, the difficulties of urban life, and the troubles of the poor.
