Lillian Hellman

Lillian Hellman published three memoirs, An Unfinished Woman in 1969, Pentimento in 1973, and Scoundrel Time in 1976. Aspects of her recollections were called into question, most notably by Mary McCarthy, who on TV offered the assessment that “everything she writes is a lie, including ‘and’ and ‘the.’ ”
