Helen Hunt Jackson

(1830 - 1885)

Helen Hunt Jackson, named America’s “greatest woman poet” by Ralph Waldo Emerson, was also a novelist and political activist. She kept almost no diaries and eschewed personal details in correspondence, once telling her husband, “It is best to have no record anywhere of anything we don’t wish to share with strangers after we are dead.”
