John Keegan

(1934 - 2012)

As a teenager, historian John Keegan contracted orthopedic tuberculosis and spent five years in the hospital, during which he learned Latin and Greek from a chaplain. He served as the military affairs editor of The Telegraph from 1986 until his death, and he wrote more than twenty books, including The Face of Battle and Growing Up in the City: A Boy’s Tale.
