Paul Le Jeune

(1591 - 1664)

Born in Champagne, Paul Le Jeune converted to Catholicism as a teenager, and was eventually sent to Canada as a Jesuit missionary tasked with educating Native American and French children. “It is a known fact,” he wrote, “that all souls are of the same stock, and they do not differ considerably.”
