Saadat Hasan Manto

(1912 - 1955)

After the 1947 partition of British India, the Muslim playwright and short-story writer Saadat Hasan Manto was compelled to move from Bombay to Karachi. One of his favorite hobbies was inventing rumors, once convincing friends that the Taj Mahal was moving to the United States. Salman Rushdie named him “the undisputed master of the modern Indian short story.”
