Les Murray

(1938 - 2019)

An Australian poet and essayist, Les Murray served as editor of Poetry Australia from 1973 to 1979, and later compiled and edited The New Oxford Book of Australian Verse (1986). His work often reflects an identification with Australia’s Aborigines, a disdain for Western intellectual attitudes, and a belief in a classical education. His collection New Selected Poems was published in 2014 by Farrar, Straus and Giroux.
