British churchman and man of letters John Henry Newman.

John Henry Newman

(1801 - 1890)

Cardinal John Henry Newman was a leading figure in the nineteenth-century Oxford Movement to return the Church of England to its Catholic roots. Until his religious conversion at the age of fifteen, he suspected that life was a dream, that he was himself an angel, and that his fellow angels were deceiving him with the appearance of a material world.
